É autora da trilogia da triologia de curtas-metragens sobre questões familiares,&nbsp;Fim-de-semana, Um dia Frio e Luz da Manhã. Ama-San, retrato de mergulhadoras japonesas, foi a sua estreia nas longas metragens, recebendo dezenas de prémios em todo o mundo, seguindo-se No Escuro Do Cinema Descalço Os Sapatos, sobre a Companhia Nacional de Bailado e o filme ensaio&nbsp;Amor Fati. Lobo e Cão, a sua primeira longa de ficção sobre uma comunidade queer insular, estreou no 79º Festival de Veneza e recebeu o prémio máximo da secção Giornate Degli Autori. Um ano depois, Cláudia Varejão regressa a Veneza com Kora, curta-metragem sobre mulheres refugiadas, enquanto, em Portugal, a convite da Fundação Gulbenkian, estreia o filme Haverá Eleições, que revela a sua voz política e feminista sobre as primeiras eleições livres portuguesas em 1975. Madame Bovary é a heroína de Flaubert e abre as hostes deste exercício narrativo. A partir do diálogo de Ema Paiva com o seu amigo e confidente Pedro Lumiares no filme Vale Abraão de Manoel de Oliveira, entendemos a identidade de género como uma caracterização estanque de valores sociais. Ema, que aqui representa a Mulher num sentido mais lato, herda uma vida tradicional numa sociedade patriarcal. Neste semblante de opressão, Ema interroga a sua condição e a sociedade em que se insere. Graças ao bovarismo integrante em cada mulher, a força da desobidiência queimará o caminho que outrora fora idealizado para si. Based on Ema Paiva's dialogue with her friend and confidant Pedro Lumiares in the film Vale Abraão by Manoel de Oliveira, we understand gender identity as a closed characterization of social values. Ema, who here represents Women in a broader sense, inherits a traditional life in a patriarchal society. Facing this oppression, Ema questions her condition and the society in which she operates.
